Temporary  Techncial Support Specialist

SELCO is seeking a self-directed technical support professional with superior problem-solving, communication, customer service, technical, organizational, and leadership skills to join the SELCO IT team and assist/support staff for SELCO and the Town of Shrewsbury in a primarily Windows
environment.


The successful candidate must be able to function autonomously and as part of a team as they plan their projects, manage their time, and organize and complete their tasks in a way that maximizes effectiveness and efficiency. This includes maintaining an ongoing action plan for their projects, quickly and effectively handling service requests, and maintaining a schedule that is aligned with the staff being served. They must be able to shift priorities as situations and problems dictate and escalate problems when appropriate to expedite resolution. They must balance multiple requests and projects by setting and adjusting workload priorities on the fly, and consistently delivering results in a timely manner. They must be proactive in their partnership with their customers by identifying issues and anticipating needs so that they may head off potential problems and bring new and innovative solutions to their customers.

 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Works closely with staff and IT department colleagues to ensure that technology use is appropriate and fully supported

  • Supports and encourages staff in their use of technology

  • Works closely with staff to ensure smooth operation of administrative functions

  • Keeps staff devices fully operational and up to date

  • Manages and maintains technology throughout the buildings

  • Participates in IT team meetings

  • Participates in building infrastructure and technology projects

  • Performs initial troubleshooting and repair of users’ hardware and software problems and tracks issues using online ticketing system

  • Communicates technology updates and news to building staff

  • Maintains building technology inventories

  • Other duties as assigned by the director

Preferred candidates can demonstrate the following skills and expertise:

  • Supporting users in person and remotely via telephone, chat, remote desktop, and email

  • Managing desktop and laptop computer settings and configurations in person and remotely, including printing, directory, and network file sharing services.

  • Installing, configuring, using, and supporting web and application-based productivity tools including office suites, web browsers, email clients, shared calendars, and contact managers

  • Training large and small groups of users in using various technologies

  • Communicating technical concepts and procedures both orally and in writing to a non-technical

  • audience in a manner that is clear, accurate, and easy to understand

  • Using technology tools to enhance professional productivity

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Have 5+ years of experience in IT related field

Requirements:

  • Must be able to negotiate stairs, climb a ladder, and lift and move boxes weighing up to 35 lbs.

 

Pluses:

  • Technology integration certification or experience

  • General IT Certifications

  • Experience managing computers running Windows 7/Windows 10

  • Experience supporting Windows users

  • Experience installing, configuring, and administering systems with Linux

  • Experience installing, configuring, and managing applications or services on Linux

  • Experience installing, configuring, and managing virtual machines

  • Experience in automating IT functions via programming, scripting, etc.

  • Project management experience or certification

  • Experience designing, installing, configuring, managing, or troubleshooting computer networks including Wi-Fi

  • Experience managing macOS/iOS devices

This position is temporary with up to 15 hours of work per week. Need will be evaluated on a monthly basis.
